Another $1000 Worth of Food for the Food Bank

As I mentioned before, even though it was going to be impossible to top the Kellogg’s cereal buy last Wednesday, there were a lot of great deals to take advantage of this week. I spent most of Sunday driving around hitting as many Safeway stores as I could to continue to take advantage of them. I ended up with $1057.10 worth of food for $54.50 (a savings of 95% over regular retail value) and another car full of food to donate to Tri Valley Haven food pantry:

This Frugal Life Gets 15 Boxes of Free Cereal

Jessica from This Frugal Life (formally That Coupon Girl) took advantage of the nearly free Kellogg’s cereal promotion last week to secure 15 boxes of cereal for her local food bank for free along with a lot of other stuff for herself. That was $52.35 worth of food for nothing out of pocket which is pretty darn hard to beat:

Madame Deals Makes A Food Bank Delivery

As I say time and again, it is always great to see when the food actually makes it to the local food banks. The latest delivery was made by Renae from the Madame Deals blog to the food bank MACAA. Even better, she took along her two boys to help make the delivery:

Jenny Ward Saves 77% for Penny Experiment

The growing number of couponers that are helping out with Penny Experiment are who will ultimately help Penny Experiment reach its goal. Most of these people are everyday shoppers who add on some extra food when they find a good deal, but when you have a lot of people making these smaller purchases, they can add up to big numbers. I hope that as Penny Experiment grows and more and more couponers join (please consider joining if you are a couponer), that it will be their effect that makes this project a success.

A good example of this is Jenny Ward who made a trip to her local CVS and came away with 8 boxes of cereal worth $36.04 for $8.32:

55 More Boxes of Raisin Brand and Coupons

When we went to deliver the 150 boxes of cereal to Tri Valley Haven food pantry, we left room in the car because the plan was to purchase more Raisin Bran at stores along the way and then deliver it all at once. I had enough coupons to buy another 55 boxes which is a $219.45 worth of food for $16.50 — a 92% savings over regular retail prices:

Raisin Bran and Fruit Snack Purchases

While it’s going to be tough to beat the 190 boxes of cereal for $5.50 purchase, there are still a lot of incredible deals available this week that I have been taking advantage of to buy more food for the food banks. My second haul this week was $233.35 worth of food for $15.60 — a 93% savings off of the regular retail price:

150 Boxes Of Cereal To The Food Bank

With the 190 boxes of cereal taking up a good portion of my room, it made sense to make a pretty quick trip to the food bank and deliver it. Of course, that meant getting a car that could actually hold all the cereal:

190 Boxes Of Cereal For $5.50

It was an extremely busy Wednesday and I think I did more grocery shopping in one day than I have done in my entire life up to this point. I ended up with 190 boxes of cereal (a retail value of $758.10) after spending $5.50 out of pocket — a 99% savings (the pile of boxes was so much that I had to place them in 2 different areas of my room — the two photos are two separate piles, not the same pile from a different angle):
