Wishing Pond — Helen Kaelin

DJ at Saving My Sanity took advantage of Harris Teeter triple coupons on her latest grocery shopping purchase for Penny Experiment and was able to buy $89.85 worth of food for $8.04 — a savings of 92%. This is what will be going to her local food bank:
Lynn, who writes Maven of Savin’, was able to walk out of her local Stop & Shop this week with 42 boxes of cereal — $147.28 worth of cereal at not cost which will be heading to the Dedham Food Pantry:
It still amazes me that it is possible to walk into a grocery store and walk out with bags of food and more money in your pocket. Amy from The Budget Mommy received money back on her fourth (and latest) shopping trip for Penny Experiment. She was able to purchase $43 worth of food for free and get $0.67 back from the store as well. This is what ended up in her grocery bags:
I continue to be the coupon king of cereal (now if I can just learn to expand this to other foods needed by food banks) by utilizing a bunch of rainchecks I received last week. A wonderful reader who wants to stay anonymous said that she could provide me with as many $1 off coupons for Quaker Oatmeal cereal as I needed which were available from a Sunday paper insert a few weeks ago. Safeway had the Quaker Oatmeal cereal on sale for $1 a box last week meaning that the cereal with the coupon was free. Since I couldn’t get the coupons before the sale was over, anytime I went to a Safeway, I checked to see if the Quaker Oatmeal cereal was in stock. If it wasn’t, I asked for a raincheck. This week I took the rainchecks and the coupons to get 155 boxes of Quaker Oatmeal cereal (a $618.45 retail value) for free:
One of the many surprises that I have had since beginning Penny Experiment is the number of people outside the US that want to participate. It happened with the penny postcard art and it happened again with the Penny For Your Thoughts books. The latest book was launched on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean by Alison Townley:
It is wonderful to see that purchases for Penny Experiment are now being made on a regular basis since this means that more food is making its way to local food banks. Mommies With Cents made another purchase getting $35.88 worth of food for $1.39 (and getting a $10 Catalina coupon back for her next purchase). This is what she bought:
DJ from Saving My Sanity made another shopping run for Penny Experiment and came away with $47.12 worth of food for $6.57. The purchase included the following:
